Drawing with scissors
What you will need:
Colour paper or plain paper or decorative paper or old paper, ANY PAPER.
Scissors
Glue
Foam shapes
What to do:
This is the perfect creation to utilise some of your favourite patterned papers, old wrapping paper, magazine cut outs or old artworks.
With scissor in hand you are now going to cut out shapes of all shapes and sizes, being sure to utilise all the space on your paper as to not waste any. Try holding the scissors in one position instead moving the paper to guide your shape creation. Once you have a collection of shapes, you’ll then need a glue stick and another larger piece of paper. Spend some time arranging your shapes before committing to glueing them down. Be sure to step back and look at your work half way through the process to assess your progress, are you still happy with the arrangement? Continue to glue the rest of your shapes down.
Pulling the foam shapes across to your work, play around with arranging the foam shapes on top of paper collage. Perhaps you want to use the foam shapes to highlight some of the shapes you created with you paper? Perhaps there is another opportunity to continue a pattern? Once you’re happy, glue them down too.
Extension ideas:
Think big! Drawing with scissors and paper size doesn’t have to be limited to an A4 size paper.
Layers, layers, layers! think about all the different types of material you could use to layer your work.
How about using a cardboard box as your canvas for your next collage project?
